Description:
Vernicos Maritime's PHEASANT, seen at Eastham on 7th March 1989, with a cargo of timber from Belem for discharge at Manisty Wharf,was the first SD14 to call into the Manchester Ship Canal.
Also one of the first SD14's to have been built, by Austin & Pickersgill at Sunderland in 1969, she was delivered to Lykiardopulo as ARIADNE.
Sold in 1981, Marine News reports that her buyers were Yama Maritime and that she was renamed MICHELLE. However the New York based Company of that name was only formed in 1982.
Marine News further reports that the ship was renamed MICHELLE C. in 1982. However, Miramar records her name only as MICHELLE C.
In 1985 she was sold to Vernicos Maritime who renamed her PHEASANT and in 1990 her owners became Sea Justice S.A., still of Piraeus.
However in 1993 she was sold East to China Hainan Shuang Dao Shipping Cop. of Haikou and she was last reported arriving at Xingang on 25th October 1993.
Her ultimate fate is unknown. While she may have been broken up at Xingang it seems possible that she continued trading locally until perhaps 2000.
Former name(s):
- Michelle C (Until 1985)
