Description:

The Mexican destroyer NETZAHUALCOYOTL (D 102), ex-USS STEINAKER (DD 863), anchored at Acapulco, Mexico on 18 March 2008.

Likely the very last active World War II-era GEARING (DD 710)-class destroyer. Built at Bethlehem Steel, Saten Island, New York and commissioned in 1945, she was decommissioned in 1982 and sold to Mexico. On the day of this photo she came into Acapulco in the morning and anchored in the bay, some of the crew coming ashore in the whaleboat. She was gone by sunset.

I just did some checking, and you are correct. This is the last active Gearing-class ship.
