BANJAARD was built in 1913 by Hendrik Kroese at Hoogezand (NL) as a ketch rigged Heckschiff for German owners. Her names under German flags (4 different) were EMMA & WILLY until 1939, GOSSI until 1956, ANKE GROTHMANN until 1965 and MARIE-GISELA until 1990, always registred at Hamburg (D). Her last German owners were the Umland family who had kept the at that time smallest German motor coaster in excellent condition. They did not want to sell her for being scapped. Eef Willems became her new owner. He renamed her BANJAARD and had her rebuilt to a charter vessel rigged as a topsail schooner. Her hull was already lengthened by about 5m in 1948 or 1952 (different sources). Until 1999 BANJAARD was registered at Kampen (NL) when she was sold to her current owners Aard-Michiel Bot und Claudia Vieser. By now she is registred at Lemmer (NL).
Former name(s):
- Emma & Willy (Until 1992 Jan)
- Marie Gisela (Until 1913 Jan)
