Here's a piece of information regarding the fire:
An engine room fire onboard a general cargo ship in the Suez Canal has killed an engineer. The other 18 crew are reported to be in good health and have been repatriated. Fire broke out aboard the Shingal on the top deck of the engine room between the walls. It is not yet known how the fire started and an investigation is now underway. "It was a big fire, the ship was totally burned," a source told Fairplay yesterday. Shingal, an 8,750dwt, 1979-built, general cargo ship, was northbound through the Suez in ballast when fire broke out about 70km south of Port Sadi at about 0930 on 7 January. The ship was 11th in line in the convoy and it grounded owing to the fire. The wreck now poses no risk to navigation as it was pulled off by tugs and is now located in the Great Bitter Lake in the middle of the canal. One tug is alongside securing the ship. The Panama-flagged Shingal is entered into the Russian Maritime Register after having been declassed by Germanischer Lloyd and Registrul Naval Roman. The ship is owned by Transoceanic Maritime with the group owner, ship manager and operator is IM Marine Services London. The Shingal was under technical management to Mektar Shipping & Trading.
