WELCOME TO SHIPSPOTTING.COM
Description:
The American Integrity makes her way down the St. Clair River in Michigan on May 24, 2009 -- she will be stopping in just a few miles and tying up to discharge coal for electricity generation--on our return downriver we will see her unloading. The 1,000 foot long, 105 foot wide ore and coal carrier was built in 1978 by Bay Shipbuilding Co., of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin as the Lewis Wilson Foy, a name she (he?) kept until 1991 when the massive bulker was renamed Oglebay Norton. In 2006 much of the Oglebay Norton fleet was sold to American Steamship Co., of Williamsville, NY (www.americansteamship.com) and the ship was again renamed, this time to American Intregrity. At some time in the not too distant future the ship will be painted into the black hull, white superstructure colors of the American Steamship fleet. Restricted to North America's Great Lakes due to their size, the 1,000 foot bulker is only 92 feet shorter than a Nimitz class aircraft carrier of the U.S. Navy. As an aside, if Magogman were naming this vessel, it would have been named something else as intregity seems to be lacking among many at all levels of society.
Former name(s):
- Oglebay Norton (Until 2006 Jun 08)
