Description:
Sailing vessel SILVA alongside at Halifax,Nova Scotia on June 28th 2009.
Built by Karlsad Varv,Karlstad,Sweeden in 1939.
The ship was the last of three masted schooner rigged cargo ships in Sweeden.
During her first two decades , she was used in the Scandinavian fishing industry, with regular trips to Iceland. In the 1960's she was refitted as a bulk freighter, without her sailing rig. Silva continued coastal trading in Sweeden until 1994.
Sold in 1994 to Canadian Sailing Expeditions of Halifax and re-rigged as originally built.
She is now operated as a passenger cruise ship at Halifax.
