Tropic. Find your input interesting. But still say she is of British Build sometime in the early 1950s I would think maybe Hawthorn Leslie Hebburn. these vessels were of some 17500- 18000 Tons DWT which fit the image more or less. The Caltex Kurnell imo 6502098 you make reference to was Built by a Swedish Yard in 1965.of some 5200 Tons DWT. so in my humble opinion is Definitely NOT CALTEX KURNELL, 6502098 Whilst not an image contributer to this site at present have have many images of these vessels taken over the years and this particular image caught my attention and a need to adjust if necessary.

OK....I've done some research and concluded-
1) It's definitely not Caltex Kurnell.
2) It closely maches either Caltex Manchester or Caltex Liverpool.
3) Zooming the image shows what looks like ........".OOL" as the last letters of the name.

Ian. I think its a safe bet this vessel is the Caltex Liverpool. she did of course have many sisters. but the name board on the bridge deck appears to be about right. this particular vessel traded for many years in Oceanian Waters through the mid1950s early 1960s. hope this is of some help.

Hmmm,

I reckon you might be onto something there.......... Whoops, didn't look at tonnage, etc. The vsl pictured looks quite a bit more than 5200dwt. I don't have access to all my "old stuff", so can't help any further. The pic does look a bit like the Shell "H" class vsls of the era too........... Oh well, back to my panamaxes and capies.

Cheers,

Ian. Interesting good colour image of this Vessel Caltex Kurnell ? are you sure this is the correct name to this ship. I do not recall any of these British Built Caltex Tankers that carried this name. could well be Caltex Bahrain., or any of the following. Canberra, Culcutta, Edinburgh,Liverpool. Manchester, Newcastle, may be I am wrong & need to be corrected.
