Looks like there is a chance for her to stay - low scrap prices...

Hi Timsen. As per local newspapers, there have been some accidents with swimmers, drug addicts, housing for homeless, and things like that, besides that its really close to a very popular beach. The Las Palmas Port Authority (the one that runs Arrecife port) took the decision. A cleaning operation...
Thanks for your comments.

Hi Jens. The American Star ( at Fuerteventura Island) was gone in 13 years. Still today in low tide some few wrecks can be seen (almost nothing). In the Telamon case, well its still there after 35 years. Until when ?...well may be some months or...years. Depending of removing operations. Telamon its one of the main tourist atractions for sea-ship lovers at Lanzarote Island, and one of the most photographed ship ( wrecks) in the world.
Thanks again for your kind comments my friend.

Ah, thanks for the explanation ventuari. So the elements tossed her around.
Compared to the wreck of the American Star at Fuerteventura Telamon's wreck seemed to be quite sheltered from rough seas and storm. American Star was gone within 13 or 14 years if I'm not mistaken, Telamon sits there for 35 years!

Cheers,
Jens

Hi Jens. After the grounding, all the cargo ( timbers) was unloaded and the fuel and diesel removed. Because of the high costs to repair and refloat, the owner just "run" leaving the vessel (with the bow to shore).
Some time later a heavy storm just move it 90 degrees to the starboard side and break the hull into two. Later the hull remains, from the bridge to the aft, turn again almost 90 degrees more to starboard side up to the actual position of the wrecks (with the aft to shore).
Almost 35 years now.
I will provide this link (in "spanish")of a open Forum with amazing photos of Telamon on different dates, the story and report of the case taken from newspapers:

Thanks a lot for your comments Jens my friend.

Any idea what happened after the grounding?

In this photo

she still seems to be intact, her bow pointing to shore.

All other photos show her stern part almost ashore and the front part missing.

Cheers
Jens

Good capture - good detail of the aft cabin section. Were you standing on the seawall ?
